Seymour “Sy,” E. Coleman, is a certified public accountant (CPA) and is the founder of The Coleman Company, PLLC.
A seasoned professional, Sy has vast experience in accounting, consulting, income tax, estate tax planning, tax preparation, auditing, business appraisals, and litigation support services for individuals and closely held companies. He also has represented clients at all levels of the IRS, including the Appeals Conference in Washington, D.C. He has performed financial reconstructive (forensic) audits for various companies in connection with contractual matters and family disputes. In addition, he is qualified as an expert witness in various courts with respect to business valuations, marital and family disputes, and financial loss determination. He also has testified in tax court.
Originally from Chicago, Sy spent most of his career (1972-2000) as the founding and managing partner of Coleman Joseph Flax & Stuart, LLC, a medium-sized CPA firm in Deerfield, Ill. The firm specialized in providing accounting, tax, business consulting, mergers and acquisitions, and business valuations to closely held businesses. Clients ranged from individuals (generally executives) to corporations having one or more locations throughout the country.
Early in his career, Sy worked as a senior accountant for Arthur Young & Co., and as a staff accountant for Price Waterhouse & Company, where he gained valuable and progressive experience.
He earned his CPA designation in Illinois in 1968, and also his Business Valuator Accredited for Litigation (BVAL) certification in 2000, from the Institute of Business Appraisers. He is a CPA licensed in Arizona, and is registered with the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board.
He received a Masters of Science in Taxation from DePaul University in 1972, and a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy from the University of Illinois in 1968.
Currently, Sy is affiliated and remains active in number of industry associations including: the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants; and the Arizona Society of CPAs. He also attends annual continuing professional education seminars in accounting, auditing, income tax, estate tax, and elder care consulting. He also serves as a board member on his home owner’s association.
Deirdre has more than 14 years of experience as an accounting professional. Her background includes positions in both public accounting, as well as in industry finance -- progressing to management and consulting roles. Past employers include Price Waterhouse, Deloitte and Touche, Phelps Dodge, and Bank of America.
After taking a hiatus from the profession to stay home with her family, Deirdre re-entered the work force in a part-time capacity, with a focus on fulfilling small business client needs.
Deirdre earned a BBA in Public Accounting from Pace University in New York, and is a licensed CPA.
Outside interests include cycling, hiking, reading, and spending time with her family.
Early in his career, from 1968 to 1973, David was a senior accountant at Flax Nathenson and Company, in Chicago. He also worked as a staff accountant at Checkers, Simon and Rosner between 1964 and 1967.

In 1973, he founded and continues to operate, Flax and Company, P.C., Accountants and Consultants, based in Chicago. A certified public accounting practice, the firm provided accounting, business consulting, income tax, and estate tax and gift tax services. David also provided tax planning, preparation, and representation before the Internal Revenue Service and state government agencies.
Between 1995 and 1998, David was a partner in the accounting and consulting firm, Coleman Joseph Flax & Stuart, LLC, in Deerfield, Ill.
